When was the last time you cooked a full meal in less than 15 minutes! This plate of garlic shrimp and rice cooked with a blend of exotic spice flavor in one skillet will always be your favorite.

In this period, I publish many recipes of shrimp with garlic with a distinct taste, and unlike our previous recipe The Best Garlic Butter Shrimp Pasta for Happy Dinner this dish contains rice. You can use basmati rice, white rice or delicious brown rice.

With a lot of grated Parmesan cheese at the end of the dish you can enjoy a lot of flavor with this dish that takes no more than 15 minutes from your time from start to finish, and one of the fastest and easiest recipes I've ever prepared. Fast dinner and no fuss around you in the kitchen.

To make this dish you will need:

Jumbo shrimp cooked
White rice fast cooking
Onions, garlic and spices
Fresh grated parmesan cheese (optional to your liking)
Essential spices: sweet pepper, cumin, salt and pepper

Garlic adds a lot of flavor and because the rice is cooked in the same broth as onions and garlic, it will absorb all the flavor! You will enjoy this dish very well.

Garlic Shrimp and Rice Easy Recipe

  • 1 cup basmati rice, or rice flour
  • 1 lb deveined shrimp, off the shell
  • 1 tablespoon of favorite oil
  • A quarter cup of chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan (optional)


  1. Rinse the rice well with water to remove any excess starch. Soak the rice with plenty of water for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Heat a large bowl or frying pan over medium high heat. Add oil and onions. Fry the onions for 2-3 minutes or until golden in color.
  3. Add garlic, shrimp and spices. Deep-fried for one minute or until the shrimp starts to turn pink (shrimp ripening signal). Add rice (fully drained) and water. When it starts boiling, cover and reduce the heat to low.
  4. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until rice is completely cooked and absorbs all water. After 10 minutes, remove the cap. If there is any excess water, let it boil.
  5. Top with a pinch of fresh grated Parmesan if desired!


* I used white basmati rice for quick cooking, you can use brown rice with gravy, noting the difference at the time of full ripening of the rice.
** Buy frozen shrimp, as most stores sell shrimp that has been unfrozen in the store as fresh (this way you can keep it frozen for a long time and use it only when you need it).
*** Usually one pound shrimp pound is obtained from a pound and a quarter of shrimp in its entirety.
*** You can add vegetables such as peas and carrots or mixed cut vegetables (you may need an additional ten minutes to complete the vegetables with this recipe, note this well).
