Prawn Curry with Coconut Milk

After trying this dish, it became an essential ingredient for dinner in my home. Whenever I don't find new ideas or want something quick and easy, I always head to the prawn curry with instant coconut milk, this quick recipe. It only takes you 10 minutes to prepare to have a warm and flavorful curry.

This recipe is gluten-free and dairy-free and can be easily made for vegetarians by replacing shrimps with more vegetables (potatoes, broccoli, squash, walnuts ... the options are endless), I also love making my own copies of recipes, try placing pieces of chicken Or a lot of beans, it's your personal choice for excellence.

If you like vegetables, my advice for you is to add some steamed green beans, which will be perfect. You can even serve this on cauliflower rice if you feel like more vegetables.

Prawn curry with coconut milk is a great option for those evenings when you have a little time to prepare anything and need a quick warm meal. You can easily double or triple the recipe if you use it for your family or a group of friends at a party or special event. It's also a great option if you haven't been shopping for a while and you don't have many options available in the fridge.

I usually have a box of coconut milk in my fridge or in the cupboard (watch the expiry date of the products you have stored in order to avoid losing benefit), and most other ingredients are spices I always have in the cupboard. What you add to curry depends on what ingredients you have available at home. If you have meat, go with the meat. If not, add vegetables and beans. Today, I decided to add Prawn and peas.

Prawn Curry with Coconut Milk Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves of ground garlic
  • 1 teaspoon chopped ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon and half turmeric
  • Salt, brown pepper, hot pepper (to taste)
  • 2 grated tomatoes
  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • ½ kilo peeled Prawns

Instructions

  1. Toast the onion with the oil until it becomes yellow only, then mix the garlic and ginger and stir for a minute or two, then add the spiced tomatoes and spices, stirring for a few minutes.
  2. Add coconut milk and leave the mixture until it boils, then add shrimp over low heat about 10 minutes at most.
  3. Before removing it from the heat, add the chopped cilantro and let the mixture boil for a while, then remove it from the heat and serve hot with white rice.

Notes

* You can serve that dish with rice or bread.
** Also you can serve with toasted shredded coconut.
*** You can reduce the amount of salt or spices, depending on the desire to taste the curry.
**** This rich, fragrant curry sauce is great with prawns, but you could easily use chicken instead.
***** Use tamarind purée to give the curry a different taste, If you can’t find tamarind purée, replace with 2 Tbsp lemon juice mixed with 2 tsp brown sugar.
****** I would rather make up and store a from-scratch version of curry powder, rather than rely on a store bought packet.
